ok got he chance of a above unit its very old untested and cant test as got no gas

is there any thing i can do to test it with no gas ?

have not seen it as yet but there is a torch as well inc

and the price is £100 seams cheap but not if its busted

Take a stinger and run a rod. If the MMA side of things is working then it’s probably good.

Probably a 32A commando but it will run from a 16A.

just been speeking to him and yes the plug is missing im thinking of running away it sounds more and more suspect as im chating to him hes got consumables in hes work and and already got a 3 phase mechine how much problem would it to be to put a plug on it and have a test 2 mins ? if it sounds to good to be true it propably is

It really depends on what £100 means to you and if the poo hits the fan how much of that £100 can you recouped back if sold honestly.
If it was £300 I’d say stay away but I’d have no problem dropping a oner on a chance if he’d at least let put on a plug and power it up.
Reason. It’s gonna return most of that £100 even sold as faulty. Even a tig torch is gonna get you £15 back.
It’s a transformer I guess so bigger chance of it been practically repaired if it’s faulty.
Say worst case scenario you pay £100 and it’s beyond your economical repair.
You slap it on eBay and list it honestly saying it’s a broken AC/DC tig. It makes £65 say. Well you’ve lost £50 altogether because of fuel etc. What does that mean to you personally. I’d take that chance personally because it could be a winner.
The question of should or shouldn’t you in this case can only be answered by you. Your not going to lose £100 though in the very worst case. You lose half that at worst but I wouldn’t be surprised if you made money selling it in faulty condition. Some people go barmy for broken welders

im going to have to say im leaving it its on the other side of where i live not miles and miles but enought to have a think on and if you guys remember with my luck with mig welders i bought 5 in total and only had 1 that actualy worked with out fixing and the one that i have now needed a fix before working fine lucky with the fourms help i got it working and lost some money on the others being a numpty with buying some thing that you dont know any thing about generaly does not work out at least for me

and this added to the fact i have been reminded im not to be buying more tools by the otherhalf untill the garage is done has nothing to do with it honest

Could be a problem, Things I have read do not give much away at all, Butters of that era were good build quality and design to be used all day every day, I would do my utmost to have some sort of test, As mentioned try it on stick mode, A man that knows Butters inside out is Carl Horton, At Horton welding supplies,
