Butane gas question

Mrs Robo has a small cooker at the stable running of a 10kg ish butane bottle, would it be possible to add a "Y" piece after the regulator to provide a supply to a small heater?. Any questions on make/model/sizes etc. will have to wait until tomorrow as I'm not driving 5 miles to the stable at this time of night .

i assume this would depend on will turning the heater to the off position actual turn off the gas

my mums got a calor gas heater and turning the knob on the fire does not shut the gas off only the lever on the gas bottle will turn off the heater fully

and do take a look at the bar there are a few different pressure regs one will do bbq but i would think you might need more gas to run a heater?

your better off with the ball valve type so one coulld be turned off whilst other is in
use

y adapters are also used on caravans for dual gas bottle usage when one runs out turn the other on and change your bottle

and if you want to save money most gas items will run on propane as well as calor you just need to change the regulator to suit

You can get high pressure clip on valves for butane cylinders, then add a Y to two on/off valves and regs, will give the same output on both then...

Butane also doesn't like low temps...I know as I left a butane blow torch out in the garage and it wouldn't light till I'd brought it inside and let it warm up for a while......

That's what started the quest, she bought a heater that had small butane canisters that fit inside and it wouldn't work below about 4°C last week so it's gone back. The cooker runs off a bigger butane bottle/cylinder and works fine even at sub-zero temps. So we are looking at connecting a fire and a cooker to the one big butane cylinder.

Way back in a former life I had a trailer-tent (Conway Corniche DL, don't you know ) and it had a gas fridge as well as the 2-ring stove. I used to pipe both appliances to the bottle without issue (those Electrolux gas fridges use a miniscule amount).

You can get a butane/propane mix in some canisters, that stuff lights at lower temperatures.

Butane will not operate at sub zero temperatures, it's not physically possible.

It remains liquid until about 1 degree C (depending on purity it may just boil at -1) so it won't actually leave the bottle.

I'll have to double check what gas is used on the cooker, maybe the tackroom manages to stay above freezing?. It was odd that the cooker would work OK, but the fire wouldn't even in the same room a few feet apart
The only difference was the cooker runs off a re-fillable bottle and the fire used the small disposables.

Thank you for the offer, will keep it in mind. At the moment I'm trying to find a one bottle solution due to limited space in the tackroom. Until I met mrs Robo I didn't realise how much gear one horse needs, there seems to be at least 3 of everything "in case one gets lost/damaged/borrowed etc."

Never seen a splitter for butane but I do have one for propane. It fits straight on to the bottle then a regulator to each fitting. Much safer this way as you get the Correctly regulated gas feed to each appliance

Somewhere I've got a 3port low pressure tap that I used to power the fridge & cooker on our trailer tent years ago, is it a LP one you want, if so you can have it. I'll go in t'shed & find it & post a photo in a minute.

I'd agree with @Parm the regs may only flow enough gas for a single appliance, need to say what it says on it
