WHEN YOU BUT WELD AN 1"PIPE OR AN 1" BOX SECTION TO A 1"BOX SECTION HOW TO YOU KMOW THAT YOU HAVE BURT THROUGH TO WHAT YOU'VE WELDED.?BECAUSE WHEN YOU HAVE JOINED TWO PIICES OF ANGLE OR SHEET YOU CAN SEE THAT IT IS WELDED ON THE REVERSE SIDE.
FROM PAUL
when joining box or tubing you should chamfer the edges so that when you put them together it forms a v which also makes the work piece slightly thinner at the joint once welded if your weld is very high and rounded then it probably was a little cold and wont have good penetration.
the best thing to do is have a look at various threads and get an idea of a good weld vs a cold weld
All sound advice there, also try destructive testing, this does invove specialised equipment, but seeing the weld after testing can teach you a lot.
Specialised equipment? a great big hammer and something to hold the workpiece in while you destroy it.
It can be amazing when you first try this, how strong or weak similar welds can be.
Also try the introductions section of the forum. This is the plce for quality supprt and information, even humour sometimes.
