Bulbs that keep working

I saw a thread the other day about led bulbs failing and this morning I had to change a bulb I fitted about 25 years ago and thought I would share how good they were

I fitted 12 downlighters and put Osram decostar 12v 20w GU5 bulbs in them. Confident the bulbs wouldn't last I bought a number of spare bulbs. The one I fitted today was only the second one I have changed in all these years

They probably get used an hour or two on most days and certainly get turned on and off multiple times a day

Well done Osram!

I can't help thinking it would be more environmentally friendly to just keep using them rather than ripping them out and replacing them with something that will generate way more landfill or complicated recycling over the years

Its a bit like the rough surface bulbs or the HD version of truck or car bulbs, five or six supports to the filament instead of two or three. Cost a bit more but last for years.

I used decostar lamps in an industrial application as they pushed more of the IR band forward - very useful with an IR sensitive sensor for a leak detector running at 3400 items a minute!

Most annoyed when they discontinued the individual bulb version within a few years of them being announced.
