Still looking for a car and am veering towards a SAAB, so naturally I started looking at V4 95/96s as you do, well I do.

year or so ago a guy in opposite workshop had a saab cant remember model for about 2 years, when he came to sell / part ex it, it had lost a ridiculous anount of value, said he would never get another

Guy at work bought a SAAB 9-5 estate, brand new. The day he got it delivered, SAAB went bust - we checked on autotrader a few months later and his £30k, ~5 month old motor, appeared to be worth £10k.

Having said that, six years on and he's still got it (obviously ) and he loves it. We just keep reminding him that it's an expensive Vectra.

I think all modern cars are the same, though with them closing up shop in 2012 it probably did not help. 95/96 can go for silly money, sometimes not though, but I am looking at a 54 9-5 estate for about £1200. All the similar Passat, Octavia, Avants are £1500+.

We will see.

you would never do it for starters a front wheel drive to rear wheel drive conversion with half the engine would be in the dash

Worked with ACE Motors in Kensington in some one off jobs, SAAB for central London also had a site in a rougher part a really nice Guy.
Also had dealings With Lamb Garage in Devon Saab for North Devon at the time, not the people who are there now.
It was in the 2stroke days & Tanus V4 engine.

I had a 1976 V4 Saab 95. Great car. Loved the column change and freewheel gearbox.

My first proper car was a Saab 96, it was a joy and went plenty fast enough for my young self!

My best friends' first was a 96, which he bought for £250, drove for eighteen months and sold for £250 with a dodgy clutch. Must have been around 1980-5.

We went to Olivers' Mount for racing and the Italian Motorcycle Owners Club meeting, we both had MZs at the timeGot some lovely pictures ....on film.
