BT fibre optic cable rollout

Yeah i spose if you need a lot of bandwidth it can be got if you are prepared to pay. Like i said earlier i remember being shown the fibre optic line going right into the college server junction room. We were told it was a dedicated line all the way back to the central city exchange maybe a mile away.

Hey if i ever win the lottery ill get one all to myself, or maybe share with a few specially selected neighbours

So is there any one on here with BT optical?

Was going to sign up for it back in June but would have to cancel two contracts phone and ADSL 2+ and associated costs.
Anythings got to be better than what currently have, cant even watch youtube at basic 360 without buffering, all because faster users closer taking priority.

Funny thing had the hard sell yesterday from the last co on earth i would have to go with They tried every trick in the book even said we will put a new line in - pure bull means digging up 6km of tarmac and countryside just for me.

Now you are just slippin into delerium... you also believe in 20mbit lines and the tooth fairy......

odd, the one I will never go back to, even if its free or I have no option is BT

the high school / college I went to had 9 lines (i think could be more) that had dedicated fiber optic lines to the council IT office (they did all the monitoring of the schools) and the council office had access straight into the junction box with some further dedicated lines. all this was way before fiber optic was even very popular.

the CISCO labs got rewired with CAT6 within weeks of it becoming available, the CISCO labs were on a subnet to the school network and that sort of went to its own line out to the world, they also ran Fiber optic cables across the school to make sure we got the best.. from the main server room to the CISCO labs is from the front of the school to the back and in a school that holds 1600 kids plus 200 students its a fair treck..

the only down side was that if the school network went down the CISCO labs didnt which put a downer on the profits of the closest public house..


as for speed, I hacked some workstations to allow me to install Utorrent, I then used some Packet altering software to allow the torrent to download and got a film in under 8 mins.. it was an ISO of the film too...

the CISCO lot taught us things that played against them in the end but it was good laugh.

We were shown the fibre optic line going into the college maybe 12 years back in 1998 way before fibre optic lines to the home were even thought about by the majority of the population.
(I know it was 1998 as I still have the computer i bought the year i started there, with Shiny new 'reboot twice a day' Windows 98 on it)
