BSF Nuts and Bolts

If he's using screws/bolts and nuts, does that mean the holes are just drilled for bolt clearance, and not tapped? If they're just through holes, (something like flanges or brackets), then there's no need for them to be BSF at all.

SC parts are £3.30 each for a 7/16 BSF x 3/4"

AJ Fasteners don't advertise BSF.

I've found some nuts and washers at sensible prices and 25 pf the 1.5" for £25 (best I've managed so far).

Just the 3/4" long to find.

Cut longer ones down if the shorter ones are awkward to find.

Btw, it's always worthwhile checking your local ironmongers/hardware shop if you have one.

Ah. That does beg the question though as to why matching numbers of bolts and nuts if some holes are threaded.

A faint hope that quantity may bring the price down a bit from £2.50 - £3.00 a bolt and covers me for the future. Plus being anal, if there is a number of bolts (e.g. on the cylinder cover plate, it's nice to have them all the same. Similarly on the hornblocks.

It looks like the problem is that we have gone Metric, so in effect BSF and BSW are obsolete. We now use metric, which has fine threads too.
The 'Muricans still use Imperial but use UNC/UNF, which are different standards to BSW/BSF.
Pricing is all about supply and demand, so with reduced demand the price will go up and smaller batches are made, which puts the price up too.

Just been on to my supplier for you bsf in stock 7/16 x3" sets 69p each------ 7/16 x 1" sets 32p each------- and nuts 9p each all plus vat.
and washers are washers.

Well washers ARE washers And some people do bolt when their nuts need a washer.

I remember when I needed 4 X 3/8 unf 24 tpi set screws, went to Johnson of Rainham Kent, Sunday morning,the guy didn't even blink just went into the stock room
Came out 2 min later with the items put em in a bag charged me 40p each,happy days,sadly now shut down, no good going to b and screws as they would never
have heard of imperial threads,
