and check the commy to make sure no segments are burnt and loose that causes the sparking round itCheck for continuity with a multimeter across the brush holders.
I may be teaching you to suck eggs but some brushes have a sprung standoff pip in them to break the contact when the brush is over worn. Take the brushes out and check for that too (a ~2mm circular thing on the commutator face of the brush)
2nd this after the above picAs above, also check the commutator and it may be advisable to clean out between the segments with an old hacksaw blade.
