Brushed artwork

Ok,so I do a bit of painting on canvas with oils and acyrlics,Mainly landscapes and a few portraits, They are nothing special in my eyes, a mate has asked if I would have a go on a panel off his vespa I know this is usually done with an airbrush but ive no experience in them at all.
So has anybody done/tried it ? any pointers ?
I know the surface will have to be sanded and it will need a good few coats of laquer after the painting.

im curious myself now to see if its possible.

I sometimes use an airbrush in the workshop, it is one I got off ebay, it was some stupid low price like a fiver or so from the Chinese sellers and it's a spot on bit of kit with lot's of control of the painting, goes from quite a fine line to about a 25mm fan.

I can only imagine the better quality one's would be a pleasure to use, unfortunately I would stand more chance of performing brain surgery than artwork.

For actual artwork the only downside I can see is the number of different colours and constant cleaning of the gun when changing the colour pot, perhaps there is an easy way of doing I don't know about.

my father did this for a living for 15 years and plenty of people still do. Either using his own designs or replicating others. Same principle as flat paint once the image is done. Using an air brush is different to using a paint brush though. A decent one will have seperate control over air and paint flow, down for air and back for paint.

the only easy way i know of to simplify changing colours is to have a seperate brush for each colour

Thanks guys, i think i may have an airbrush kit,only a MMart one though.
Gonna stick to the brushes for this attempt just to see how it looks.

So long as you use fairly thin paint so you don't build to much or lay it on so the brush marks don't flow out you can paint with a brush the only other consideration is using paint and laquer that work with each other and the base paint. I have a airbrush but pictures and me don't get along a trick that some use is when you get to a point you are happy with clear coat it then if you make a mistake or that your not happy with it you can flat it back to the last clear coat bit like a previous restore point on your computer.
