brown "film" on welding helmet

Ive been stick welding for a few years and just bought a hobart 140 mig wleder. I am not useing a shelding gas, only fluxcore wire. I have noticed that i keep geting a "browish film" or dust on my helmet. I had a little bit when stick welding but not this much. It is building up very fast and causing me to not be able to see. Does any one else have this problem or know what could be causing it?

Its welding fume, mostly iron oxide. You need to keep your head out of the plume or better still get some extraction.
You should also read the MSDS - see the manufacturers web site

We use air packs which prevent the fume getting into your mask. Ideal if your moving around a lot. If your welding in a fixed place, i.e a bench, best to remove the fume at source as well as using an air pack or similar.

Note also melted cover lens

Don't worry it's very common!
When i weld an 8 hour shift, i clean my lens cover a few times when it get's too bad!

Mine gets covered like that too, i just give it a quick wipe down now and then.
The salesman keep peddling these fancy ones with designs on, waste of time for this very reason.

Nah, nothing wrong with my eyesight, i just have the habit of getting close in.
