Broomwade air pump

Hi I have a broomwade air compressor pump Type AC50
Does anyone know of the rotation pulley turns. Anti clockwise or clockwise.there is no arrow marked on the pulley or pump?

I would think it likely blows air across the pump.

Rotation of the pump is inconsequential for actual operation of the compressing the air. The only requirement might be how the crank lube is achieved. I expect it is by a dipper arrangement. I would expect B&W to have designed the lube to be operational in either direction (ie idiot proof).

My expectation is clockwise, looking at the pulley. Seems logical as it also follows the direction of the compressed air flow.

Is there no arrow on the outside circumference of the pulley?

also the angle of the cooling blades will give the answer...
clockwise direction from the pulley.....
BUT it's a proper made thing, doesn't run that fast so as long a the correct level of oil is in the sump either direction would.....
NOTE slow rpm.....
the equiv modern pump that are made from ally run fast....

Agree with all the above comments. Some pumps also have an oil pick up located on the big end that is angled to face the direction of rotation. This scoops oil from the sump and forces it into the bearing, worth checking to confirm for the correct rotation.

Commonly referred to as s dipper (see my post). Many early engines lubricated the crank by this method (most stationary engines). Some - even diesel tractors - used oil pumps which simply squirted oil over the big end of the connecting rods, but those engines always rotated in a fixed direction!

clockwise looking at the pulley , it blows air across the pump not suck it across as it would if going counter clockwise
