Broken wire to EGR Valve

Discovered the cause of multiple fault codes, one of which suggested a fault with the wiring to the EGR valve, sure enough when I cut back the insulation, one of the three wires was broken about an inch back from the connector.
This wire looks to be part of the entire engine sensor loom so a repair would be the preferred option, whilst I can do soldering, this wire is very thin and also so close to the connector, whats the best way to repair it?

Well done for finding that!
I'd just strip the ends back a few mm and solder them with a piece of heat shrink over the top.
Wrap the lot in some loom tape. Jobs a goodun.

Ideally you'd replace the connector contact, add a new bit wire, and splice it in further into the loom, however for something like that without having to wait for parts, I'd use a red heat shrink butt connector, but trim one end down to give a bit flex between it and the connector.

However, if that's a Merc engine, the dealer will have listings for most of the connector housings and contacts. But you'll likely need to find the Merc part number on the plug, as the parts catalogue isn't the best for identifying specific connectors.

Excuse my ignorance, presumably this is the butt connector, would I slide it up the wire solder the wires together then slide it back down over the repair and just heat it with a heat gun to shrink it or does the heat gun melt what looks to be a bit of solder in the centre, not used one of these before .

The red crimp ones are a bit bulky for signal wires, Amazon list some clear ones that are perfect. Soldering an engine harness is not the preferred way as the solder will travel along the wire making it susceptible to fracture.
