broken wheel bolt

Hi peeps,i have a broken locking wheel bolt on my SAAB,it is inset by about 1 inch and the broken bit appears to be made of a very hard iron material (my drills wont touch it)inset to a steel wheel bolt.
i was thinking,would connecting my arc welder the wrong way round and using a gouging rod remove the head or maybe a plasma cutter ?
if a plasma would do it,anyone round the west London area got 5 mins to spare this weekend?
not really worried if i damage the wheel but it has to come off !

Check a few tyre depots,most have the special sockets for removing them.
They select the socket to suit the type of lock which has hardened blades that cut into the bolt/nut.They then unscrew with breaker bar.
I had 4 removed,but not in London,for £20.Took about 10 minutes tops.

Have you tried a Cobalt drill bit?.

sorry cant take a pic,i am a complete numpty with all things computer but the surface that you can see is just about flat,no way to get a universal remover on,i tried a cobalt drill in a pillar drill on a spare bolt but it didnt even mark the surface :-(.
as i see it the only way out is burn or cut the wheel with an angry grinder :-(.

Is there room to get a small chisel in to knock the bolt round using one of the 'pips' where the proper tool would fit. I've managed to get a few off like that. Big hammer required

I got put on to the guy by an indy BMW workshop,they said they don't mess with them,just run it round to him.Quick and cheap.

scrap yard way is to knock on a close fitting socket then undo as normal,has to be a good fitting socket as Neil said better advice if you could post a picture or a link to the style of locking nut fitted....

that tool doesnt always work. ive used it lots of times and its not as good as a lot of garages will make out. plus it costs an absolute fortune to buy. and the blades for them are one use only, and used to be around £17 EACH!!! to buy.

my personal method is to use an air hammer. (air chisel, whatever u call it where u live)

use the oldest, bluntest attachment u have, then hit it square on to create a dent in the head of the bolt, then use the side of the dent to hit the bolt round useing the tool at an angle.

I have used oxy/propane to get a couple off in the past , but it will scorch the wheel.

We weld a hard bolt onto the nut then a breaker bar with right socket for the welded on bolt. we keep cylinder head bols for this purpose, we cut them short with a slitting disc then grinde a chamfer on the end so as to get a good penetration with the weld. We weld all round 2 or 3 times in a kinda stitching formation to for a wide fillet weld against the bolt

the head is pretty much flat so no chance of getting a remover on,it is sooooooo hard i cant get a chisel to even mark it,the head bolt idea sounds like the best.see what happens at the weekend,cheers again peeps :-)

Set of 5% cobalt drill bits and an 18v battery drill
Start at 3mm and work your way up until the head falls off.

That's if I can't just weld a big nut on it.......
