broken verniers

hi

i was given an old school set of digital verniers . they now have a crack screen black lcd. my suspitions dad knocked them over.

is there kits to do it. I saw something on Aliexspress

Has anyone done it repair i mean.

Usually in special at Aldi or Lidl for less than a tenner….

So unless you need accuracy for building a nuclear power station, they ought to be good enough….tbh, I have a cheap digital one from Harbor Freight when I was in the States last, they serve me well enough, if I need better accuracy then it’s time for Mike to come out and play..

corect vernier is a measurement. its a vernier caliper

It would take a bloody good knock to break the LCD on a Vernier caliper.

The LCD broke on one of the Mitutoyo mic heads on my microscope, and got much worse when I took it apart to investigate. I think you just have to suck it up and buy another.

Its quite an art to change LCD's. I must go with the general consensus.
Bin em.
The LCD itself is a couple of thin glass plates with the liquid crystals held in between.
The connections are conductive traces etched and plated onto the glass.
The connections are conductive rubber strips that contain as many "wires " as needed by the LCD to operate.
The rubber strips are "very accurately " positioned on the circuit board, and the LCD is placed precisly on top of the rubber strips.

Then you screw it all back together, OR if its a cheap setup, clip the little keeper springs back onto the unit.

There is an auction site that sells excellent units WITH the calibration certificate for $30 Au, about 18 quid for you.

Takes me back to first year undergrad lab one of the set experiments was making an
lcd with two slides and goop. Then watching them twist under a microscope.

If it's a Mituoyo caliper you should be able to buy a new lcd unit.
I looked for one for my old caliper and[as with most thing of mine]
it was the only one they don't still sell parts for.

The Mitutoyo spares place is down near Andover somewhere.

They quoted me about £50 ish for a new reader assembly a couple of weeks back
