Broken spring help

Sure I'm just saying the broken off end is shown upside down and backwards in the photo.

The way the spring and broken piece are shown in the second pic of the first post is the right way around.

Yeah you're right, just looked at it on the laptop and its in wrong in that pic. This is how it goes.

Ok so I got it bent back into shape and it's now working right, I can tension up the spring and it holds on. Unfortunately I've discovered whoever took it apart and chucked it in the skip has left out 2 bits if the mechanism that locks it out, so when you unwind the lead it just winds back up. One piece is a spacer which I make up easily, the other piece is a 2" spring which pulls the pawl against the rachet, I'll have to try source a replacement.

What diameter? I have a selection box which might just have something to suit. :dontknow:

Let me know and I'll check tomorrow before I leave base for Christmas on Monday - if there is I'll post it before setting off.

That'd be brilliant if you have something suitable. The spring is 60mm in lenght when compressed and approx 6mm in diameter, the wire is only about 0.6mm thick and it only has stretch about 7 or 8mm. This is the type of spring it is.

Really appreciate your help, I'm not in a hurry to get this sorted so you don't need to go out of your way to help. If you don't get a chance to check before xmas don't worry about it. This was pulled out of a skip by a mate and given to me to see if I could make use of it.

Well if slim_boy doesn't have one, I definitely will. I bought a job lot of spring boxes some time ago which is bound to have "the right one".

I have a look tomorrow.

The bend you've put on looks a bit precarious, needs to be slightly more acute I think...

Yeah it could have been a bit tighter of a bend but it was hard to hold it to get a good bend on to it. It looks like it wouldn't hold but when it's pretensioned and it's wrapped around the centre hub it can't slip out. Just need to sort the locking mechanism and I have a nice extension lead to bring my plasma cutter out in the yard when weather conditions allow.
I've priced up these cable reels new and they're double the price of my plasma cutter.

That's a brilliant find just for the hose. Decent hose is not cheap (cheap hose is never decent).

The other one had damage near the plug so I had to shorten it by about a foot but was perfect other than that. This one was in a box taken apart. This is the ones I got.

This is the cable fitted to it.

Looks like my box might have come up trumps with a spring. I hope it fits where needed - I'll get it in the post tomorrow.

If it's no good, you'll have @Screwdriver's offer of a 'delve' in reserve. :thumbup:

Nice to know they're inside what the outside prices suggest. I had a look at the retail prices of them and couldn't justify the spend.
