The way the spring and broken piece are shown in the second pic of the first post is the right way around.
the other piece is a 2" spring which pulls the pawl against the rachet
That'd be brilliant if you have something suitable. The spring is 60mm in lenght when compressed and approx 6mm in diameter, the wire is only about 0.6mm thick and it only has stretch about 7 or 8mm. This is the type of spring it is.What diameter? I have a selection box which might just have something to suit.Let me know and I'll check tomorrow before I leave base for Christmas on Monday - if there is I'll post it before setting off.

I'll give it a try without retempering it and see how it goes. My back up plan if I can't repair the spring is to just remove it altogether and fit a knob on the reel so it can be rewound manually. The construction of it is really impressive, the rotating contacts are nice and heavy duty and it's fitted with good quality cable.
