Broken Diode

I have been repairing an old Eland 300 mig. One of the diodes has failed. So I am looking for a Semikron SKN 240/04 diode. The dealers will only sell a complete rectifier unit at a price more than the wants to pay.

Get a full set, and go to the next current rating up if you can

The way to find electronic components, if you know the part number (you do) is Octopart.com - https://octopart.com/search?q=SKN 240/04 - just make sure you're looking at the right part, because sometimes it will list other versions too.

RS and Farnell both have this, but it's still going to be 45-quid a pop.

Repaired the MIG. Got the diodes on ebay, fitted a new contactor as the contacts was badly burnt. Found that the cooling fan was not working causing the diodes to over heat. Got a new one on ebay and then refitted the thermal on top of the transformer. All now working a treat all for less than 200 pounds.

How on earth do they get 300 amps out of a transformer on 240V

I work for a truck hire company that covers the UK and just repair tools in my spare time as a change to working on the trucks.

To get 300 amps out of 240V a large transformer and 30 amp supply. This mig is 150+ KG in weight.
