BS1916 appears to be current, and costs £224!!! https://shop.bsigroup.com/ProductDetail?pid=000000000030192612 apart from that, its something to do with how undersized or oversized a hole or shaft have to be for a particular purpose. You probably knew all this - I didn't. I just looked it up.
