brighter workshop lighting

Hi guys,

My 'shop is set up with standard fluoresent strip lighting atm and i find myself having to carry around a inspection lamp while i'm welding to actually be able to see what i'm doing, which is difficult and annoying...

Does anyone have any recommendations for replacement tubes which will fit in my existing sockets and be much brigher, and at the same time not use too much more power?

there isnt any other tubes u can put in flouros its either halogen lamps which blind u. or metal halide fittings which are bright and cheap to run sodium are yellow in colour . screwfix have them in industrial lighting

you can get varying colour temperatures in flourescent lighting which will give off whiter light

You get "thin" and "thick" flourescent tubes, both types have the same fitting and are available in all the common lengths.
The thicker ones are higher wattage so give off more light

You might already have the thick tubes but if you don't they will help a little

the older fittings take the larger tubes the new ones slimline less wattage and balasts to suit so dont put larger tubes in slim tubed fittings

the other thing is wipe em down often as in clean if there more than 18 month old renew em because they loose there eficiency after that time been on 8 hours a day

the reflectors for flouros are pressed steel painted white every manafacturer have there own sizes so generaly dont fit on anyone elses + they change the design every 5 years to winkle more money out of u
