Brass Laquering

what type of Laquer should I use for brass? ie to protect it from cleaning it periodically.

On my much loved boat which I still wish I had... the couple of brass thingys were giving a coat of International Yacht varnish...as far as I can recall... it did the job well, probably some newer hi tech stuff these days though.

an antique dealer friend used to clean the brass that needed to be cleaned and then give it a coat of ladies unscented hairspray,Don't know how long it lasted,but just for indoor use I would think.

but it all peels off eventually due to the brass finish being so smooth

did you know that brass copper and silver are self sanitising ie they disinfect themselves of many germs
