i still have 2 of these complete and 1 incomplete somewhere
when i was younger i used to have 1 of these but it never vaporised the parafin really well for some reason.
a ball of flames could often be seen coming from my shed as i kicked it out the door.

mine would have been going for ten mins then it would just erupt into a ball of flames i gave it away

I seem to remember my old man having to light meths in a little trough to heat the paraffin up enough to vaporize on his blowlamp

I put petrol or meths in the well on top of the fuel reservoir and light it to vaporise the fuel in the neck. Give it 2 or 3 minutes to do the job then turn the fuel tap on and it should light then just give it 4 or 5 pumps. Which rubber seal is leaking ?

have you made the leather ones or are they the propper things you are supposed to keep them greased to stop the drying up

Hi,
It looks like a Sievert blowlamp, are you talking about the pump washer? It's fairly straightforward to make one from an old bit of leather, just make sure it's really soft or it wont form. Dubbin works well or wax polish for wood, even water at a pinch. Keep working the leather and it will form into a cup. An old bike pump may have a leather washer about the right size.
