brake lines

I was doing the seals on a 2007 Toyota hilux and I butcher the flare nut for the brake line so I need to pick up a flaring tool and some flare nuts how do I go about measuring the brake pipes as their reading 4.9mm outside diameter so I'm presuming I need a metric set .
just thought I'd make sure before I ordered them
I don't do much of this type of work so I'm a little out of my depth

just looks like standard brake pipe, Always used to be called 3/16".but will have metric size flare nuts,

just go into your local motor factors shop and ask for a roll of brake pipe it will be copper they also sell the nuts

thanks guys ill head for my motor factors tomorrow I'm hoping just to re flair the end of the pipe ill buy a role just in case

check the flaring tool as some say no good for steel pipe as it damages them if thats the case then its worth replacing the pipe

Steel flaring kits are expensive. Practice making flares before you do the ones for the car. Quite easy to to make a flare and for it to leak

you can buy brake pipes already made in many good motor factors just give them the length that you want.

I had a look at the pipe and I think it's aluminium its scratches easily I'll pick up a length of copper as well. it'll do for practicing and if I need to replace one.
some good videos you tube on where you could go wrong is a big help. I'm hoping just to do the end of the ones that there as there is a lot of bends in them

I can highly recommend this type of in-situ pipe flarer, if the pics dont come out, it is the product number 3434 from laser (other makes are available) I have done copper with great success on my and other discos.
I have also done aluminium with it but it will not work on steel as it wont grip it sufficently, but it is not designed to work with steel pipe which is a bit of a shame, when it comes to doing injector pipes, but I know someone with a mega good hydraulic jobby.

Don't use plain copper as it can crack, ask for copper/nickel or Kunifer

Flairs we used to make those at school. It takes some practice getting a proper pipe that fits. The bending tool indicates for length compensation, as it had a scale added called "gain". My way would be a template with cello tape as a guide, and suppose a second or more flairs happen to be made, a bit length to spare. Good luck!
