Brake disc thickness

As I can't find any factory info on wear limits, is there a "rule of thumb" for calculating wear limits?
Front discs on the quad bike measure 3.25mm at the outer (assume unworn) edge and 2.9mm in the worn area which works out to about 90% original thickness.

20% lost is time to change. At 10% on a quad I wouldn't worry.

I used to work for a Yamaha quad dealer, but I can't remember the spec if there was one, as long as it's not majorly rutted to the extent it'll damage or prematurely wear new pads you just need to watch that with fully worn pads the piston/s aren't too far out damaging the caliper, because trust me, they are NOT cheap!

Just an update, was cleaning off the hub before changing the bearings and found "min thickness 3mm" stamped on the disc under the crud, new discs and pads on order

with usual quad prices, i think i would have introduced a mesureing tolerance and convinced myself the disks were actualy at least 3.01mm

not like the brakes on quads ever work anyway

Although the pads still had some meat left, the discs were quite badly scored (and undersize) and as Mrs Robo will be towing a small trailer I want them to work.
Found some EBC discs & pads for £55 a side so ordered them.

EBC arent the greatest, they paint the pads to attract the boy racers. Had some once and they weren't as good as stock, pretty crap if I'm honest hence the price.

Ebc for quads aren't that bad tbh, it's what we used to fit as they're also 1/4 the cost of oem.

I've been using them since the 80's and have no complaints, but I've never been a "push it to the limit" sports bike rider with the need to decelerate from warp speed in 10 metres

EBC can't be all bad. They've been at it for years. Almost as well known as Ferodo.

I had ebc green stuff once with their turbo groove disc's. They were awful, maybe the vehicle they were fitted to didn't suit it particularly. I don't know but they were bad.

never much been a fan of grooved disks.

have run a few sets of EBC yellows on the golf they do ok
