box tube gates

Made some metal tube box gates ,my question is. Do I need to go around drilling holes in the box tube ?

Is it being galvanized if not is it likely to hold water

Why would you need to drill holes in it if it isn’t being galvanised?

If it’s welded all round won’t need holes if it’s not holes on the bottom so the water can escape

During galvanizing yes the pressure needs an escape

what you will find is if there solidly welded the last bit will pinhole due to air expansion blowing through the weld poolno big deal

if They are being galvanised you just drill the corners of the frames to allow the air and gasses to vent out, drill as close to the corners as possible but just remember what’s going to be on show, try to hide the drill holes where people passing by can’t see them if possible

If your not having them galvanised It may also be good practice to drill the a couple of holes in the bottom of the gate to allow and condensation to trickle out the frame.
