Bouncy castle blower as extractor?

If i have a bouncy castle blower, not this one, but this type of thing -

(i already own a couple for something else)


..set in the spray area, at floor level, to clear the air a bit when painting, am i going to blow myself up?

I mean, one of the compressors is in the same building, and, i assume, thats equally as "sparkey" and im still alive.


I know it wont do a load of good as the air coming in to replace the extracted wont be filtered, but i thought id give it a go and see what happened. Im mostly interested in clearing over spray from settling on everything.

Is the outlet going to the outside via a duct, and are you connecting a duct to the inlet? Both will tend to reduce the 390cfm (11m^3/min) nominal airflow, which is roughly equivalent to the extraction rate of a decent cooker hood.

I would have it as an extractor. Connect up some ducting to the outlet, so as the building becomes negative.

As an extractor the airflow in the building will be less directional. If I did it the other way around it would be intolerable.


I don't know the airflow on the units I have but it's got to be way way more than a cooker hood. I use them for furnaces normally and have to restrict them a lot.

I've got one and used it exactly as you've described when I resprayed swmbo's old rover in 2017.
It was cellulose paint, with normal thinners. I assume its the thinners are the main risk

I masked the walls and "ceiling" (joists) with plastic sheet and left a single 1ft square airbrick as the air inlet, on the opposite side to the air exit, which was the fan with 12ft of ducting through the door (also masked off) into a homemade filter box.
Cleared the air nicely from the 7m x 5m x 2m space pretty darn quick ; those things have massive airflow

In H&S terms it's probably not adviseable, but then spraying at home is same.?

I had one of those. It had a tefc motor (totally enclosed, fan cooled) so there shouldn't have been any sparking as you might find on a brushed motor. Not that I am giving any advice.

As above. A brushless/sealed motor should be OK. Consider airflow. If you are going to push air out of a space, you need to draw air in. Too little will cause a vortex draught too much and it will be counter productive. Experimentation required with a bucket of smoking wood or similar.
