Bought a bike!

Saw chunko's post. I bought a 2-1/2 grand bike for 50 quid, did I ****. I bought a ten quid bike for ten quid, after someone had thrashed it 15 years, or so. Theres something wrong with that deal?

Any way I got on my bike and pedaled, I had visions of going to the post office[6miles away], when some of my tat sells on ebay, thats in 10 days. Today I rode up the road and back [500 yards{and back}] and was well knackered!
Might put some air in the tyres tomorrow;-)

Last time I rode a bike, ride a white swan was no 1.
I have consumed loadsa pies since then.

Know the feeling, I borrowed a bike a few years ago. Sheffield is all hills and the ride into town was downhill, but coming home I had to get off and push! I pushed it up the next street to mine and rode down my street so the neighbours wouldn't see me pushing it!

Ah, the unique topography of Sheffield - remember it well.
Where-ever you start from your destination is uphill. But when you turn around to go back it's uphill again.

I ride a Giant Hybrid bike and my wife rides a Claude Butler when the weather is better. We used to do a 20 mile circuit of the local countryside a few times a week but that fell off a bit when I was not well. I still ride up to 5 miles occasionally but observe rule 1 (riding at walking pace get off and push) and am gradually building back up to more regular trips out but we are blessed with a lot of hills round here as well. My best speed down one of the local hills is 47.8mph on a fairly accurate bike computer speedo thing.

Round everywhere is uphill, after 6 years I realised why, we live in a valley. Sometimes i is so intelligent.

Secondhand bikes? I love people who buy a fancy bike and then realise that they still have to pedal it and put them in the shed for a few years before selling them off cheap.

I have 2 bikes so must be twice as fit as you lot, must admit you do feel better for it after the heart has stopped pounding and you can talk again.

The 2 bikes is a Halfords cheapy, think the frame is lead filled, then my mate gave me his old bike which cost about £700 and he had upgraded, what a difference...so much easier and nicer, also no slipped gearing and my throat having two new lumps in it.

I have about 6 bikes in working and a few others. I used to have about 20 in a heap in my mates garden, we weighed them in for scrap in the end.

I can remember my first ride on a decent bike, I went from a shagged muddy fox to a high end Chro Moly Marin Pine Mountain, in 50 feet you can tell the difference.

Always buy a decent from a rich boy who wants all the toys and cant make the effort. I have done this about 6 times over the years. A four figure priced bike is ten times better when you pay 25% of the price. But buy carefully secondhand. Some people use these bikes to death.

My neighbour payed £300 for a nail and it cost him another £200 to get it working, and it was still barely average, it just had fancy brakes.

Also never go trying bikes you cant afford. It can be very expensive.

Didnt get killed in the woods but had forgotten what hard work it is crawling up steep slopes.

Blew the tyres up. They had 8lbs in one and 12 in the other..
With 50lbs in them it's not a lot easier to ride! I went to the end of my road and back, probably a mile total.

I was going to buy a Kona, £50 from friend of a friend, ridden a
few miles since new. But he didn't get back to me so I bought the
'handbuilt in england' claude butler.

I am guessing handbuilt in england means, none of it's made here. I should have spent 20 quid on a raleigh, it's local and it has new tyres, mine has bald tyres. Still after I have angle 'grindered' the nobs off the sides of the tyres they will be slicks and won't be bald!!!

I bought a bike on ebay 2 weeks ago, logged on at 6pm and got a "you have won this item mail". I logged onto ebay and mailed the bloke to ask his address and when it was convenient to collect. Then I noticed I had some new feedback, I took a look and it and it was along the lines of "great ebayer, collected within minutes and paid cash"!!!! It was referring to the bike. Some git got the phone number before it ended, went to crawley and phoned when it ended and went and collected it!

I have a £60 Halfords special, bent chainrings and crap brakes but hey, it was £60 and it's done almost a thousand miles, you couldn't go 1000 miles on Stagecoach for £60. A year or two back I had an almost daily routine of 8-10 miles on the bike and 6 to 12 miles up the Tees in an 18 foot sea kayak... but I let it slide and now I'm a fat puffer
Used to go rock-climbing as well; now I struggle to pull myself off...

When I was a lad I used to get tatty old racing bikes, strip and respray them, new bits as necessary and usually had change from £20 for what generally looked like new bikes. I'd ride them for a few months then flog them for more than I'd spent. Now I can't be pestered, £60 is nothing on the scale of things.
I got a £400 milling machine and £800 TIG set for free, does that help balance the books?
