Bought a anest iwata 2020 air fed mask

Hi I bought a cheap second hand anest iwata 2020 air fed mask.

Complete newbie to spraying but I want to try out spraying some 2k paints and was recommended to use a air supplied mask.

My question is can I just plug this straight into my compressor and play?

I seen somewhere that using an air fed mask connected to a compressor needs some sort of special system connected to the air compressor to prevent vapour or oils etc from passing through into the air fed hood.

Anyone have any experience with this mask and how it works?

I got the filter that’s on the belt of the mask I’m guessing that’s just a carbon filter? Do you mean a 3 stage filter that goes on compressor to filter incoming air into mask? I have been reading to use a 3 stage filter is that all I would need?

That is all that you need. Your helmet has an additional carbon filter in the belt set.

Thank you, I have seen a few mad setups on YouTube where they have copper piping going up and down and multiple filters on the same line. I take all that isn’t really necessary or has different reasons?

To be safe you should test the air quality delivered. That's what body shops have to do (and sometimes fail to do because of cost...potentially endangering the health of their workers ).

maybe obvious but you may need 2 compressors to feed mask and spray gun setup and where is the compressor sited relative to where your spraying

I have a spare room which the compressor that will be connected to mask will be away from Spray area.

Those are usually a homebrew attempt to replicate the way a condenser/chiller type air-drier works.

Neat concept, but nothing you should rely on for air you're going to breathe in.

Stick with a commercial type filter that's been certified for breathing air and maintain it according to the manufacturer's spec.

That is a worthwhile adddition for a permanent setup. It allows water to condense out before the filter pack, hopefully giving you drier air. The drop legs allow drainage at intervals and mine certainly collects decent amounts of condensate. It is not a replacement for a decent filter pack, but an addition to it.
