Boot socks

I normally just buy the Matalan packs of work socks, for day to day use.
Sometimes doubling up when its cold.

On the rare occasion i wear me wellies though, they dont seem like enough, and the heels wear quite quickly.

Had a look in Mole Valley Farmers yesterday, hunter boot socks were £15 a pair!
Bought a pair of these instead, to try out. They look warm


What sort of socks do you use with your wellies to make them more comfortable?

I just wear normal socks but I do have to tuck my jeans into the top of them otherwise they always slide down to the toes. I was lucky though and got given a fancy pair of wellies which are über warm!

Tesco sell some with kevlar reinforcing in the toes and heel, they market them as steel toe boot socks at around £5 for 3 pair.

I wear them all the time as regular socks as they are so comfy

seal skin socks are great, but really expensive. Great when out all day in the cold fishing or shooting. Apart from them I love plain pure cotton socks as they help to stop your feet from stinking too.

I normally wear 'Pit boots' for the workshop and site - they have a soft top so don't chew your ankles up, and are comfy even when new. Arco sell them quite cheaply. Quite a snug fit so don't let hot things in! Just wear my normal socks with them. When i wear rigger boots or wellys i have sea boot socks - mine are cream in colour though. - about 3 quid a pair from Arco or Greenhams, but the heels go through quite quickly.
Hate wearing wellys, usually means we are slopping about on a muddy site
A lot of sites have banned rigger boots now, although some seem to have gone back on this lately.

If I know it all just light welding for the day then dutch army para boots, mechanical involved and its some steel toed jobbies.

hate riggers, or anything not tight on the feet

i wear some thermal ski socks from tchibo ( yea the coffee people ) with my wellies ,wel that was during the cold weather recently . Nowt worse than cold toes

i use dunlop purafort wellies they are so comfey you dont need extra socks to pad them up and the material is insulating so keep your feet warm

I got some thermal socks from sports direct, £5 and a 2.5 tog rating, been working out in the snow and ice in the past few weeks for 12 hrs a day wearing wellies and they have kept my feet tasty warm. I wear my regular socks inside them.

I'm amazed how organised everyone is. I managed frostbite for the first time ever this year. Couple of toes have little black bits at the end at the moment probably due to shoes not keeping water out as well as they could. It's only a little bit and they'll grow back.

Will be seeking nice socks. And shoes.

Mal , has the quack checked out them toes ?
Black sometimes goes gangerene. You might end up with painful toes in years to come i got frostbite in me tootsies nearly 40 years ago , changing an axle in fairly deep snow snow in minus 20 oC , nowadays they hurt like mad whenever they feel like it .

Thanks - you've had me look it up - eww. I just had tiny little bits right on the end of a couple of toes. I've just had a look and they have gone reddish again so I've probably got away with it. But there's a sock investment to come.

Malcolm - its prob worth having that checked, I have a vague idea that any dead flesh needs to be removed if you want to keep the rest... (Check - not sure?)

For me, I use foundry boots (not the knee high type - just over the ankle ones), and I've been trying different socks. Use the boot socks (long white ones) from Screwfix - were ok, too long. Recently been using the Dewalt ones they have in bins near the counter. they are pretty thick and warm.

If it gets real cold I move into long johns, double up on socks and slip on the old furry-lined rigger boots. Delays numbness by maybe 30 mins. Nice.

Snap. I get the size smaller than the "right" size now, else they get too big after a time.

Same with me, then the lace up boots. Only prob the steel toe caps are coming through due to working on the floor on my knees.
