Bonding and plug welding panels

Hi Guys

Just after your thoughts and ideas please.
I am going to be replacing the roof skin on my Mgb gt over the next few weeks
The roof skin arrived yesterday.
I want to keep heat distortion to a minimum and have seen that you can bond panels safely these days. Some areas will be welded i.e around the windscreen and the widow posts & rear quarter joins

It would be nice to just bond the gutters and the boot flange as I think the bond would be waterproof and keep distortion to a minimum and there is the frame the skin sits on which could also be bonded

Has anyone used the adhesives and can you recommend some for me please
if you think its a good way to go

Can't pass comment on the bonding but not sure if you have caught the Mark Evens tv sieres such as a car is borne ect. There is on that fetures an MGB. He had to fill a couple of holes (8" dia) behind the seats that previous owner had cut for speekers!! went through to boot. He plated these by "bonding" plates Also he had to part "bond" the rear wing where he could not get to with spot welder. I know that he sometimes uses other stuff that most would have just welded, but I think this is more about showing the viewers what possible/available.
I do recall about 30 odd years ago one of the practical mechanic type mags had the feature/headline "You can stick your wings" the artical went on to say that in the "future" welding cars could be a thing of the past with the devlopement of new addisives. Mind you we should all be driving flying cars by now aswell.

Might be worth contacting these automotive bonding manufactures and explaining what you want to do with "there" product and ask if it or another of theres is suitable.
Post back on your results.

3M do products for both automotive & aerospace use. Ople were bonding back wings on some of their cars 30 years ago

mit evo 10s have aluminium roof panels that are bonded to the steel shell I have done a few, we used tiger seal/bond never leaks and is good enough for a rally car that has landed on its roof a few times in one accident !! without even splitting the seam.
We still had to cut them off, what a job sh*t and blanket springs to mind I would not bother with the weld, I stuck some steel tin plate brg supply oil gulleys inside an ally g/b before rally GB it was rush job and we couldnt get spares so I stuck them in place and they didnt move a mm and that was submersed in screaming hot gearbox oil.
I think if they had stuck the Titanic with it it would still be in service today no welds or rivets just tiger bond !!!

The whole of the visible body on my Espace is bonded on to a galvanized frame. Replacing anything is an absolute pain.
The idea of mixing bonding and weld (on the same panel) sounds a bit odd. Especially as the original was all spotted and might raise structural questions. The roof is an inportant torsional part of any car, but not sure if it applies to an MGB which was an open car to start with.
Plus, bonding is quite specialised, not just a bit of Araldite chucked in.

I will have a look into the tiger bond. I have been bonding plasticss proffesionally for many years which is why the idea Is appealing.
also watched a few videos by Americans on you tube. it doesn't seem as popular here and there seems to be fewer options. might just be my perception
It's true the mgb gt roof has little bearing on the structure which was another point in favour

All we did was a good clean a thick bead of tiger bond and stick it down,they ended up solid, similar to fitting a windscreen.
