Boiler help please

Got a call from a mate aughter that's in hospital my heating is noisy can yoi pop over ok yes

On getting here the pressure on the boiler was at 0 so went round all the rads checked for air all then ok filled pressure up and turned on the rads came up to temp quite quick 20 mins but when I cheaked the pressure it was near 5 mm from the red zone that seams to be a little hight to me my boiler dies not go that high when it's heating the radiators

Any help looking on the net the pressure vessel in side would be the problem so poped back tonight when the system is cold and done another test after half hour from cold this is the pressure now

most of the rads up stairs are hot the down stairs are hot ish but I'm putting that down to system needs balancing and it's not a worry at the moment

Did you bleed the rads after filling? You may need to bleed and fill a couple of times, if there’s any air in the system it tends to expand and push the pressure up when it gets hot.

When I cheaked the rads there's only in with air in any only very little just thought the pressure is rising a little to high for my liking

Would not surprise me if he has not had it service for a while so will main it him for this but as she needs it better so at least it's working I fully stated I'm not touching the boiler just cheak the air and fill up any more it's up to a plumber gass safe

It's the vessel, boiler pressure rises and then prv opens and pressure drops

Those boilers have a few common issues but non cause what you have posted

Sorry for confusion the first pic is the boiler cold the 2nd when it hot just earlier in the day it seamed to get near the red line was a bit worrying but seams settle down now will let her know to get it serviced and keep an eye on the pressure gauge

Expansion vessel needs pumping up or replacing

also quote the same as kayos other typical thing is the boiler hasnt bleeded correctley and needs to run through to clear the air can also cause that issue

watch for pressure going up or down after a few uses and also watch out for blow off valve releasing pressure due to expansion tank been at fault

Is that a Valliant? Diverter valves play up and the pipes in the boiler can very clogged. They usually suffer with losing pressure caused by the valve or leaking from the auto air valve on the pump, even both can be faulty. Is there any sign of a water leak on the plastic under tray? I'm not a plumbing engineer, I just tackle anything rather than call out the cavalry. I've found that Gas Safe doesn't guarantee anything. I will however, soon be asking a question about the boiler I installed 33 years ago!

As said will be checking on it again an a day or 2 just to see if pressure is about the same but from this point on it's working and I'm not removing the cover as it's not mine to play with
If was my own I poss would do a valve or such poss even a pressure vessel as the room in my boiler is very good I had a leak the other day out of the tf1 was going to replace myself but turns out it needed a service kit as the rubbers had failed so sorted that out all for the price of 2.40 but was a very easy job

I live in a Bungalow and about 5 years ago my Boiler was also loosing pressure over 24 hour period, I would put more water in the system. After about 3 years of adding water each Day I contacted a plumber heating guy who called round and said I had a water leak somewhere ! Now I'm in a bungalow and after 3 years filling boiler "every" day you would expect to see a leak inside or outside somewhere on or around the pipe but know nothing.Last Year another Heating engineer came out and said its your Boiler Mate.I said OK fit me a new good one which he did £2.300 later Off he went.. Next day the same as last few years,So now after every 24 hours the Gauge reads zero !! So I fill it back to 1.25 Bar. Been doing this every day for a year since it was fitted. ???????? I don't know what's wrong either.. A guy who I know had my old boiler and fitted it into his house and says it runs great.. I phoned the Guy who fitted our new boiler a year ago to come and look,He wont come back. SO yes after 4 years every Day filling Boilers "2" different boilers this one is a Worcester I'm starting to get fed up.

Have you copper pipes concreted into the floor ?

Have you tried leak sealer, it does work? If you're continually adding fresh water to your system you will soon lose any corrosion inhibitor that was added to the water originally. This means that sooner or later you're going to end up with a blockage in your heat exchanger, assuming it's a combi. that is.

it wouldnt be a year before id be thinking on those terms by constant filling up of there system

hog rider as the issue he thought was a quick earner with a new boiler fitted

the phonecall for them to come back and look wasnt in his interest if he only was paid for the boiler refit

like many owners out there they dont want the refit of pipes in there propertys just the cheapest option to get it all working again

Is it a Combi boiler or do you have a hot water cylinder as well?

I had my friendly gas man here over something non boiler related ( we lend each other tools , and any gas / boiler work I do he checks and cert’s for me before using )

Ive had a similar problem when I first bought my bungalow , it was losing pressure , but was weekly not daily ...

He said if it isn’t coming out of the PRV , it has to be leaking somewhere . I t took me weeks crawling round under the floorboards to find it .

Truely an awful job to locate the leak .

Yes the copper pipe does go through the concrete floor in the Hallway in the Front of the Bunglow, Also in a new extension at the rear.By the way if the Guy who had told me that there was a leak somewhere in the Copper pipe under the Hallway I would of said yes replace that lengh of copper.The Boiler is a Combi Worcester Eco.Im nearly 70 now with Health problems which don't allow me to have a go myself otherwise I would of done.The problem I have is that at my age after watching these programs on TV where us old people get taken for a Ride I don't know who to get and replace the bad copper under the Concrete. Any Ideas ?

Most likely where its leaking then with you not being able to see leaks elsewhere had a couple of jobs over the years like yours had to re-pipe system to eliminate the pipes in concrete
A thermal imaging camera might show the leak in the concrete.
