I’ve paid British Gas Homecare insurance for over 20 years. I’ve rarely used it, and came very close to cancelling it a couple of years ago.
Then my boiler burst, coldest day of 2023, a week before xmas, a Saturday afternoon.
I called Homecare and with a little persuasion they arranged a plumber for next day, Sunday, and he ordered basically every working part in the unit and said he’d be back on Tuesday.
And he was, and he rebuilt it completely.
It’s not cheap, £27 a month or so, but like any insurance: you don’t need it until you need it.
And I know, the smart people will tell me to put that money in the bank and just pay a plumber when something goes wrong….

Some manufacturers offer fixed price repairs, Worcester/ Bosch do, maybe worth checking with others.

daughters partner is going to do his gas cert course and recons its going to be over 6 grand

Forgetting training, to stay qualified and competent it's thousands per year
Plus van, tools, calibration of said tools etc etc
Then insurance, fuel, tax, can't forget tax
