BOC Transmig 140 or Sealey SuperMig 180

Hi Guys,

I am looking for my first mig welder as I have an RX7 with a few holes underneath that need patching up so thought i would have a go at it myself and when I am working on my cars quite often have had the need for one.

I have found the two welders above pretty close to me so I can collect -

The Transmig looks like its quite old but has lots of dials and is pretty big, also comes with some gas and a regulator. Think he wants about £150 for it.

The SuperMig is just the welder and looks newer than the Transmig, think he wants about £60-£100 for it.

Which is the best one to go for?

Well you need to decide what other jobs you might want to line up for the new arrival. Without question the boc/murex transmig is a superior quality unit but at a max of 140amps anything above the 4mm mark it's under gunned for. It will also (been an older machine) draw more power off your supply at higher current. The sealy has got more umpth to cover 4-5 and possibly a bit of non structural 6mm joints but is a cheaper less reliable machine. So it's about trade off really. Quality/capability

I have a Sealey...

BOC transmig is the one to go for, it should be a good quality machine.
For car work 140 amps is plenty, you won't need anywhere near that much power welding rusty cars, it's the lower end that's more important as some machines only go down to 40 amps which can be a bit high.

As with buying any used welder, you should see it working before handing over hard earned.
