Boc price rise

Got a letter from boc this morning. I should have expected it as i seem to get one every year. According to them due to a downturn in the engineering industries, they have to increase prices. Every year.

Ah! These guys never change! I'm glad to be out of gas rental, BOCs yo-yo pricing made it a pain in the backside for years. I hope they don't up your price too much Ronan.

Every year its the same Jim, one saving grace is they are doing a 5% discount with orders online.

It always was. Every 4-5 years, huge push to buy customers with unsustainable pricing, then at the end of the offer or if you went outside of the agreed deal (minimum stock/usage agreement etc etc) then they would wind the prices back up. Rather than offer sensible prices across the board, and keep them the same.

As a valued customer of BOC, i am writing to advise you of revised prices for BOC products and services which will take effect from 1st january 2017. Details of our new prices are enclosed for your information.

Whilst we continue to work hard to minimize the impact of price reviews, unfortunately we are continuing to experience increases in a number of areas of our business. We have been impacted by the global decline in steel production which has impacted gas production capability in Ireland and the UK. World commodity prices of factored products are also increasing and labour rates remain high, all of which significantly influence our pricing".

The letter doesn't actually state any percentage or actual prices rise, it just gives the price for the bottle rental from january 1st, i would have to find last years bill to compare.

I suppose they have to charge something but i wonder what sort of time frame they give for delivery.
Do they narrow the delivery time down to an hour or two or a couple of days, so you end up having to hang around waiting for them.

So in a nut shell. Everyone has dropped us to source elsewhere. So you mugs that are staying, are going to get hammered.

Been charged 20quid to deliver to my local dept, put the nail in it for me. God knows what they charge now the local dept is closed.

Co Ive been sub'ing to, moved to another supplier, with no rental charges, and half the cost per bottle fill.

These are our prices (Industrial user) - I think BOC still beat the prices we have been offered from other suppliers, not checked lately, but to be honest I find their service and back up is flawless so I've no immediate desire to jump ship.

I'd want 54 quid if I sent a 10T wagon out and there was no one there to receive the goods

Interesting reading, thanks for posting. I'm not an industrial user, but those prices for the cylinder rent don't look hugely different to the £75.65 + VAT annual rent on my Oxygen (size X) and the same for the Acetylene (size M) that I have. But the last refill on my (small) Acetylene cylinder was £83 collected once BOC had added on all their mystery charges.

I used to have Argoshield and Pureshield from BOC too at some significant rental; I changed to Adams gas "trade" cylinders, which has saved me quite a bit of cash over the past two years even though a 200 bar refill works out slightly dearer than BOC's -but then again, delivery from my local agent is both free and prompt.

I got a letter today, from BOC. offering to match any price I pay for my gas.

I looked at what the thought I was paying and gave them a call.

Yes they can beat the gas price, but with the additional stuff they want to charge makes it 100% more than what I pay now.

And yet the CPI And RPI never goes up at the same rate. Welders I dont suppose everyone needs but they buy things that are welded. Train journeys again not everyone takes but if vauxhall are putting prices up it wont take long for the rest....

unless your useing lots dont deal with BOC i hear from people working at the local BOC depot that cylinders are still coming back much faster than they are leaving, as all the light users are going elsewhere but maybe thats what they want

I'm hoping to dump mine back with them by the start of next year.
New firm local to me now with no rental is cheaper than the discounted rate I was getting on W cylinders...

The crowd here that do the cylinders aimed at the light industrial/diy market aren't doing the large bottles. The last small bottle i got, lasted four days, useless. If they did a fulll sized bottle filled to high pressure, then i would go with them.

@Welderpaul is that figure correct for the pureshield argon? £11 something a refill. That's over £70 cheaper than my firm gets it for an we have 6 pureshield, stainshield, aulshield, 2 argoshield universal and a set of oxyacetylene. I guess that counts as an industrial user?
