right im wanting to make some stainlless window frames we double glazed panels for me boat, as the ones in at the min are old 1930s bus windows and a tad knackered and draughty.

is it possible to weld stainless we a mig? do i need a differant gas? ive got argosheild light at the min.

any tips or advice would be great, thanks.

With my mig? You can weld stainless we me mig and whatever you want but it will discolour the welds.

Hi Pete,
I've had good results welding stainless with my MIG using Argoshield light - clearly you need to have stainless wire and, as Pedrobedro says, the weld does discolour but you can clean it up pretty well. Beware of using steel wire brushes or flap wheels that have been used on normal mild steel as this can cause ferrous inclusion which will result in rust patches. You can buy 'pickling paste' which will deal with both the ferrous inclusion and the discolouring but beware - it is evil stuff and needs respect! Finally, stainless has (even) more tendency to distort than mild steel.
