Boat delivery service idea ?

Hi all, merry Christmas

As i started working for myself fettling folks boat up and down the country, it has come to a rough end, well no entirely as still managing to do bits but i have been thinking on an easy on the limbs addition to it.
Now the new boat of mine comes with a good SBS 3500kg twin axle trailer. plated and all as it should be from that company.

And i just got a new well proper tow car. As below pics

Now one thing i am stuck on is insurance for this type of company. I have called a few but they are unable to help.

Anybody give me an idea who to try for it please.

Tow capacity 3390kg from VIN plate.

Plenty of insurance around but I would check other things as well maybe @Justme can advise as you may require a tachograph as well due to being hire and reward.

No Tachos for 4x4 yet from what i found out. I would just write down my tracks i have made if i get pulled ever..

Have you got an O licence?

I'm going to assume that would be a requirement of any insurance, along with a tach.

I'm happy to stand corrected, but I fairly sure you will need a tach - anything down for business purposes needs a tach on 3.5 gvw IIRC

Thats the first thing i looked into with the O licence but as said above they dont do Tachs for 4x4 vehicles.

that’s an odd rule. Does the 4x4 have to be registered ‘special purpose’ like a landrover?

I think tacho’s kick in at seven tons gross with 4x4’s. You should be able to get a goods in transit insurance to run with a normal commercial vehicle insurance.

I looked at a Disco, it was cheap. The guy selling it used it for towing a car transporter trailer about the country delivering customers cars. There was a tachometer in that

I can’t remember the precise rules, but I used to run Ford Rangers with 3.5t trailers - no O licence required but definitely need a tacho, and you can get a tacho fitted to most 4x4’s

The article in your link does quote all vehicles “where the maximum permissible mass of the vehicle, including any trailer, or semi-trailer, exceeds 3.5 tonnes” must run a tachograph.
So unless the 4x4 with the trailer and boat weight less than 3.5 tons you are going to need a tach.

The only way you can get out of it is if it isn't for hire or reward - but given it is a business you are going to need one to stay legal.

why would i want to get out of a tacho. i am looking into all thigs i need to sort out, insurance being the biggest cost wise.

You will def need a tacho even to move 1 inch.

You wont need an O licence as you will be using a multipurpose vehicle & your trailer is under the small trailer unladen limit.

First mistake

Complete horse poop. You only need tacho if actually towing for work & not exempted.

They will say you cant drive a vehicle fitted with a tow bar if you dont have the entitlement next.
