Blowing holes

Had another go on my welder and still blowing holes, I turned gas down to 4, power on lowest setting and turned wire feed down to 4, was welding my front bumper (moggy) as it had rotted away in areas, took me longer as had to keep repairing the holes I made

I wasn't holding the torch in one spot for long,less that a second, I ended up just doing quick touches like spot welds and then build up on that.
What else can I do to help stop blowing holes, ?

what wire are you using?

I know those bumpers and they're made of metal that's way thicker then mere body panels! What MIG welder are you using? Are you sure that you're welding to metal that hasn't almost rusted away?

0.8 and a sureweld monomig 181, there could be bits of rust, I should have cut out more than I did

It is a really fine line between spots on the surface and a hole. The moment the weld pool starts disappearing into the metal, its time to stop, only for an instant but its long enough for the severe heat to dissapate. Then instantly get back on the trigger having moved the torch along the weld line some small distance. Hold the torch on a slight angle so the welds pile up on each other as you progress.

the rust wont help at all. The metal needs to shiney and full thickness. Also i would try some 0.6 wire, will allow your welder to use its lowest current
