Blow torches/lamps

What do people recommend/suggest for occasional use to help un-sieze/heat up bolts?
I was thinking something portable maybe running of its own gas canister

If you do and they are an excellent torch do not leave the cannister on for long periods unused as it can block the reg and then you have to buy a new one as they are not repairable

Also make sure you burn of the gas that is left in the torch after you have removed the canister

Bernzomatic (you can just about read it in the photo). Torch is about £50 from places like Screwfix. MAPP gas cylinders around £10-£15.

Yeah that's what i have now, the one with the blocked reg that i cannot bear to throw away is a Rothenberger Superfire 2 which is the ultimate

For a big bad un you will need oxy/ accet or oxy/prop. Albee cylinders? Ok that's a bigger cost but make sure the MAPP gas is up to the sort of things you work on before buying

i managed to get the wheel nuts on my JCB red hot and freed off no problem using mine, when a 6' scaffold pole with me jumping on the end wouldn't shift them.

Ive owned a rothenberger torch for years now, and the only time its not had a canister attached to it is when im changing it.
I suspect the longest ive left it though would be a few months when moving house, so maybe it sticks when held at a perfectly static pressure?


Incidentally, the ignition unit failed on mine. I called up rothenberger and they sent me a service kit out, FOC.

I would buy from them again because of that.

My day acquired one from work because the spark had gone. I had a look and the wire was sparking to the body near the lock button, a little bit of insulating tape and it was working again. I unscrewed the cylinder a couple of weeks ago and it leaked so now I keep it with the cylinder on.
