bloody megane again

so i went out this morning to pick a few things up from the post office and when i tried to start the car to come home it wouldn't idle. It would start fine, but as soon as the revs dropped below 1500 it would cut out, even if i tried revving it again.

luckily i had my 'spare' tool bag in the boot, which is fairly well equipped for a basic kit. Checked the plugs, appeared fine, checked the coil packs, appeared fine, even went as far as to take the inlet manifold off to check the cam position sensor as this hasn't long been replaced (8 months). All seemed fine. Anyway, put it back together and though ill just not let the revs drop until i get it home.

started the engine and it was fine...idled at 750, smooth through the revs, no coughing or stalling.

this car is really a starting to do my head in

Mass airflow sensor? A dodgy connection there can cause all sorts of weird intermittent idling problems. Other than that, you bought a Megane from Les Createurs D'Automobiles, random problems come fitted as standard.

I've driven two from brand new to well over 100K miles, nice engine, pity about the rest. Would I own one? No.

checked air flow sensor and all is good there. It hasn't played up since and i went out shooting earlier in it which was a 60mile trip. No doubt it will develop another fault soon

If the cubby holes in the rear footwells play up, I still have some spares of them
Even they have wires to them.

rear footwells? mine only ha them in the front footwells, unless ive just never seen the rear ones. my front ones have lights in them, and I have a regfrigerated glovebox, which does nothing except keep the handbook cold lol

thought I was going mad for a second lol. I would imagine yours did not have lights in them? they are an optional extra but all the wiring is there anyway. I have the wiring for the heated front seats, the only thing that is missing is the temp control switches, but I cant be bothered taking the centre console out to fit them lol

maybe it knows what's coming next... best thing you could do to a renault.

Mind you they're all as bad now, with electronics for everything. Electric window stuck down, absolutely no way of putting it back up with out the controller. Ballache.

no, but even though the locking issue seems to have sorted itself, I am still very paranoid about this

I took the boot switch off a friends MEgane recently, the rubber membrane over the switch had a couple of pinholes from wear and tear letting water in. All the boot lid had to come apart to get it out without damaging it. If you have a new one you could probably prize the old one out and save dismantling half the car.

Same colour as my dad's was too... I was glad to see the back of it because after he died my mother couldn't make her mind up whether to keep it for sentimental reasons or sell it as keeping two cars on the road was a bit silly... eventually she saw sense and kept her Stilo (!). The Megane was bought by an Asian guy who drove up from London to Teesside to buy it for his nephew. It wasn't a bad car per se but the potential for electronics glitches worried me a bit... the only thing dad really had trouble with was the windows randomly opening and closing themselves - and an airbag warning that was traced to a crusty connector down at the front somewhere, if I recall rightly. Or maybe that was the Stilo...

They practically ceased to exist once cars went drive by wire. Sounds sensorish to me, what type of CKP sensor is it? Any DTC's?

Scan it for codes is what he means, repair then clear them.
Could literally be anything, even seemingly unrelated.
