Blogging anyone do it

My sister in law has been doing Ok with her wedding planning business raising awareness by blogging on facebook, so this week I started my own company page (Bowland fabrications ltd) on facebook talking of our work.
Its pretty historical work wise as I have a habit of taking photos and such yet never doing much with them, though written its in the current, wonder if any others do this and what they have found out along the way?
I plan to do a few updates a week working through the work done with a few of the ups and downs, ins and outs of the job / jobs. Perhaps getting to a few u-tube vids and such later.
Bit of a luddite really to be honest but I am trying (my wife says very trying at times!)

Having an 8 year old phone and hating any social media crap it pains me to say this but i have been toying with the idea myself to generate more work for my company...My Daughters keep nagging me to comply with trends...please keep this thread updated iff you attract any more work off it

its too early to say but I am getting viewings already. Guys in the States seem to be doing well with it in our trade, I suspect its one of those slow burn fires you struggle to keep lit at first

I have a facebook page but I wouldn't say I blog on it as such. www.facebook.com/theirontree, it's a cheap (free if you don't bother with paid advertising) easy way to get your business seen a bit more.

I really dislike the term blogging. I'd say it's more utilising software or a website to display past and current work in your case. It will take time to be seen and possibly bring in fresh work. Just keep badgering away at it and adding content. Make it interesting and informative to read wherever possible, as well as uploading photo's, and it should garner interest over time. Doesn't matter what format you publish in. The main thing is keeping the site active with updated content, even if/when it seems to be doing nowt. It'll get there eventually.

100% could not agree more. Don't worry about layout or location. It's good, regularly updated information that people want to consume.

I have a blog, but it's not to make money, it's more because I can't be the only one who wants certain information that is largely wrong on the Internet

Not saying everyone will come flocking to mine and believe it, but I know the info is there should someone happen to find it

I also post some random photos, a small portion of what I shoot, alltho it isn't facebook, I won't sign up to that thing

Well I have to be honest it never appealed to me before, I think I was perhaps swayed by the media and talk of bullying, stalking and the security risk it could perhaps pose.
Oh yes it does seem a slow burn thing, I have traced back though other peoples pages and seen this.

At the end of the day though I think a "blog" on what you are actually doing day by day is a great way for clients and potential clients to see what you are all about and doing day to day (far better than a recommendation that could always be false or bias). My long term plan is to link from a good webpage and get onto the U tube with links between the three. It seems a daft term "blog" but as its the term that is understood I think we have to live with it I think words like carpet might be far better something like "fitrug" perhaps? Carpet (the car bit) to me brings to mind the muck that gathers in the foot well of the truck and( pet) means dog hair- suppose people didn't have cars and dogs in the house back then though?

The whole webpage is another thing is doing my head in though I do understand selling and marketing and it seems to me so many webpage creators are pretty much one trick ponies I am on my fourth "thanks but no thanks" answer to a firm this week To be honest I just want people to find me from the name and location and get an easy way of getting in touch. Mostly I am out of coverage for the mobile signal or out of the office so I do think that one will pay, though I am not about to start on so much spend I need to think about marketing percentages in each of my quotes.

I have my own website but I don't think of it as a blog although it does detail me pulling my cars and bikes apart and 'fixing' them...

I originally set it up as a free info resource for other TVR wedge owners when there was little option but to pay a dealer or 'specialist' and if you rang the factory for info. they wouldn't tell you anything.

Costs me a tenner for the registration every couple of years and the hosting is taken care of by my son-in-law who works in IT. Although there's a note on the front page telling potential advertisers I don't want to run adverts, people still email me claiming I could make millions if I did

One thing which grips my sh*t more than anything else is the twonks who can't even manage to stick to the basic rule, in that a website should function fully regardless of what extra UI technology is available, i.e: graceful degradation or graceful enhancement, whichever way you prefer to look at it. Things like JS, for example, should be an enhancement and not a necessity.

Well its like this I once worked with an IT guru guy and together we developed a real hum dinger of a sales tracking system. At times he was way off the mark and I had to explain what I wanted in small detail, at others I was way off the mark on the IT stuff (a company however works best with a varied team). I guess what I am saying is I haven't found a company that functions to my needs yet, you just cant win a Rugby match with a full team of wingers no matter how good they are

Strange really. I have played with websites for years but never really done anything about using them other than for clubs I have been involved in. I set up a site called http://www.Cyberbuyer.co.uk and then set up a facebook page of the same name. https://www.facebook.com/groups/cyberbuyer/

I set the selling website up for two reasons. One I was hoping to get some early bargains. and two because I hate facebook as its not easy to search on and your advert is only any good for the first hour or so if its a busy site and if its not busy its unlikely to sell. so I was forever adding adverts and having to recreate the text etc for slow selling stuff.

Using my site the advert photos and text are always available for the user to reuse on other sites, its free and simple to use.

Sadly it gets little or no use for some reason, despite the fact its on facebook as well.

I have been working for a few years now on website software for garment design. We have recently been using it to list other items but as it uses flash its been limited. The new software will be HTML5 so it will be easier to add items for decoration, but as its all open source its been slow progress.

Its not all bad as I was able to create an online shop http://s-o-f-a-s.co.uk/opencart/ for a guy in just a few hours when he was quoted thousands to do the same thing and they never did anything after he paid the first instalment.

In a nutshell I am not a great fan of facebook although some people make great use of it, just not me lol

I run a blog on Blogspot,http://eastcoastrowing.blogspot.co.uk/ , it is somewhat irregular & sometimes i dont post on it for months but its free & has generated a lot of interest from all over the planet. Stuff about good boats, tools & life!
