Funnily enough, just had bloke at the door reckoned he'd been robbed and could he have some money for bus fare, took a while to understand him as he was ******, neighbour came out and recognised him, said he'd done the same thing a few weeks ago, last seen running down the road while I phoned the police

best laugh .had last year a guy at door at 12 pm at night holding his gutts saying he had been stabbed call an ambulance 
so i did and went back to the door and hede disapeared 
jumped in me van drove round and found him . he was p***ed , i jumped out and booted him hard up the ar...se then phoned the ambulance back to cancell them as a hoax and then said mebbe u better come cos i may go beat him up

I pity ambulance men and women. There is an ambulance man in the gun club who's now retired, he was telling us about some of the lunacy he had to deal with in his job. Attending a fight at a travellers wedding (who'd have thunk it) , bringing one of the fighters to hospital, when he decided he wanted out and demanded the ambulance be stopped as he was going back to finish the fight, having to chase a pikey around a busy motorway in the dark. No money would pay you.
I've heard all about those 'virus fixers' but they never bother me, I've been signed up for the TPS for years plus I'm ex-directory and I never give out my phone number unless I need them to ring me back and I trust the company.
I must be doing something right as I get zero cold callers, be careful what info you give out. If your filling in a website form etc just make up a phone number, same for the address, postcode, etc, if they want an email address give them one that you don't use. I've setup an email address that auto deletes anything older than 2 weeks. Also I have also setup multiple redirects, I'll give you an example
If I sign up for an "amazon.co.uk" account the email address I give them is "amazon@duff-email-address" and everything gets auto deleted after 2 weeks.
If I actually need the emails from "amazon.co.uk" I set up a redirect "amazon.co.uk" -> "wookie@my-actual-email-address", because it comes in addressed to "amazon" I can easily filter it into a sub-folder to keep my inbox tidy, and if "amazon" starts spamming me or decide to pass on my email address to someone else I just delete the redirect and it all gets deleted automatically for me after 2 weeks.
The reason for the 2 week wait before deleting is if I occasionally need an email from these rogues, say to reactivate an account I can go and check the "duff-email-address" for the link they send me.

HI Get a Callblocker from http://www.cprcallblocker.co.uk/ £39.99 I have one for several years, they are brilliant don't bother with any of the other types all of which are dearer. All you need to do is press a button on the small unit when you receive an unwanted call and their number is barred forever also blocks number withheld calls, I cant praise this unit enough. get one and get some peace. every time you receive an unwanted call press the button. I am not employed by them, just a very satisfied customer, by the way another good firm to deal with is Langley Steelworks, I just put this in for good measure

I like to string them along too, and have done so on quite a few occasions. But after a while even that is a PITA I can do without,

Starting the conversation with an argument gives you the upper hand. When they call me and say 'is that Mr....?' (they always seem to know your name don't they?) I just say no it isn't. You can usually spot them as soon as you answer so be ready. I sometimes wish I had a recording setup of some kind so I can play them back. One kept insisting I was who he said I was. After going on for five minutes he finally gave up when I asked him to prove it.

my grandfather used to have calls telling him he could get help with his debt problems. He had never been in any form of debt in all his life, he was a self employed taxi driver and didn't declare a penny in the 40 years he did it, loaded to the eyeballs, anyway he got really fed of these calls, shouting at them didn't work, threatening legal action didn't work, then one day the phone rang, he calmly picked it up, put it to his ear, then smiled and blew a klaxon horn down the mouth piece. They never phoned back after that 
Patients deciding to get out are one of the horrors of the job, several times now people have made a break for it and exited stage left while the truck is doing 70 on the motorway. The outcome is rarely happy and the poor crew have to live with the consequences.
These days I just put the phone down on them. I've tried being nice and I've tried being nasty and the only thing that works for me is to just not engage and put the phone down. They did drive me to distraction last year when my Mum was dying, the Hospice would ring from a withheld number as they had an internal exchange. Picking up the phone with that feeling of dread only to find 'David' from Mumbai on the other end at 7 in the morning used to leave me a nervous wreck.
I imagine money comes into it somewhere, it usually does when companies appear to ignore their customers needs.
