Block paving and tarmac drive refurb

hi fellas , hired a pressure washer and decided to clean my block paving and relay some sunken bits (. I laid these about 25 years ago I didn't put hardcore down as 1, I thought ground was firm enough
2, couldn't be arsed lol
3, would of had to dig out another two large skips with of soil and get 10 tonnes of hard core in. Extra expense and could be arsed again lol ,


So u can see blocks have come up nice , degreaser used and brick acid were. Necessary

Going to take up the sunken bits tomorrow and relay prob on post mix instead of sharp sand
Seems like a good idea to me .....

How much do they sink when u wacker plate them on the levelled base , sharp sand or post mix in my case about 1/2inch or shall I do a test piece , there will be 5o mm. Base ??

I need to get the vibe plate back mid morning so I'll be out at 7 am lifting block s
I have more questions about the knackered tarmac or is it ash felt ? But that will do tomorrow , !!

just put a couple in and tap them down with a block of wood if it ok carry on and vibrate them down you can lay a piece of plywood over them and whack over the top of it makes them more even and wont mark them. if your using cement and sand just do a dry mix whack them then water with sprinkle of water with a hose pipe

Good idea rethe plywood got some osb here , ill sand the joints manage to get a couple of bags of play pit sand from B&M of all places no where has kiln dried sand , well a builders merchants did but there only supplyinngv. Account holders on a ring and collect basis ..
No stock local in wickes or bn q.


Planning on sealing it when complete , any one any recommendation of product or suppliers

resiblock its about £105 25 ltrs from the builders merchants if there still supplying

Have u used it yourself ? How many years till it needs redoing ? I'm assuming it just a clear resin coating of some sort , I'll have a look see who supplies it , like I say my local merchants are serving account holders only
No graet rush but tired of bringing grit into the house every time it rains .....

[yes I use it once the blocks have been cleaned and sanded put it on with a roller and it will seal the blocks and bond the sand stopping it from coming out and growing weeds .depending on conditions every 2 years to keep them in good order without loosing there colouring

That looks a nice job , low maintaince I like the gravel were the outer blocks mortared in place ?? There's no edging ?

don't do it on a red hot day with no wind it stinks and gives you a headache

Well I got the sunken bits relaid and the whole area re-sanded looks really good , I've ordered some samples of resiblock .
This paving is clay , made by blockleys actually they were seconds , so just a chip or whatever on one face so unnoticeable if turned over . I see for clay pavers you squeegee the product on at 1litre per 2sq metres ,
I'm guessing as the clay is impervious it's just the joints your sealing
My new house has some block paving which I "think " is concrete so I'll get enough to do that at the same time .
Expensive stuff at £226 /25litre but looks the dogs tbh

id shop round dunno if its the same make but normaly 120 quid topps for 25ltr . il look what make it is later. its the same stuff your just paying for the name

just looked everbuild block guard the prices differ widely. builders merchants sell it for about 120 . on internet ridiculous so shop round

I've used the watco tarmac stuff before on a couple of driveways , used a foam squeegee to level out ,looked good when done but that was a few years ago and never been back so couldn't say how well it has lasted
