Is that part made of plastic? There's so many different products now that it's best to sand it all the way down when it's dry enough to not clog up your sandpaper. You might not need flex agent unless it's part that sees lot of bending (like plastic atv fender) or if it's plastic that is flexible to the point that you can flex it with finger.

Yes it's plastic and the bumper as a whole flexes like you wouldn't believe (off the car of course). This part is in the centre so doesn't get much movement.
I will sand right back properly with the DA then.

Really pleased I started out on this small part instead of the whole bumper!!

Looks to me that where you have gone through the clear you have reapplied the basecoat too wet, you need to dust it on.
If your putting it only 4" away it's only gonna end in tears

It does say pattern width: 9.44inches, which fits with what I've read about HVLP (8 inch)
It says set the spray distance from gun to work piece as near as possible within the range of 100 - 200mm (3.9 to 7.9 in)

Perhaps I was much nearer to 4" than 8"

I guess I didn't have this problem first time around because it was going on to filler-primer which absorbs the paint a bit, maybe?

it does make sense what you are saying, about too heavy, because this is where my gun started as well, and I may not have started off to the left of the workpiece like I am supposed to.

What gun are you using ??? If your 4" away and moving slow you will get too much build up

Anest iwata az3 hte2, 1.3 tip. I am moving fairly quickly across the piece but maybe not quick enough. I will back off the distance anyway.

Using my oil painting knowledge this reaction might? be down to the primer/filler over the 2k?

ie in oil painting you cannot paint acrylic over an oil base as it will react but you can paint oil over acrylic once dry,maybe thats what is happening here? you're applying acrylic over the 2k that has not cured properly.

I have the exact same gun, I spray about 6 inches away and get very good results.

I'm not sure exactly off the top of my head but I know they are not full. Fluid delivery is possibly on 2.

as in, 2 turns out?

My test patterns look OK although not so heavy in the middle and very gradual fadeout.. but then that might be the paint I'm using just looking faint (BMW black sapphire mica)
