Bleached Red Panels?

Been ages since I've posted, baby Busa taking up loads of time Still I have managed few jobs here and there in the shed.

Now my Yamaha Thunderace has been neglected for a short while and the Red plastic panels have gone like a bleach red, little like what happens with alot of red cars, is this something that can be polished or am I stuck with facing a respray?

dont know if the same applies but on plasitic bumpers that have gone from black to light grey (plastic finish only) a hot air gun returns them to the original colour

It happened to a red Corsa I worked on and nothing would remedy it but some tinted car polish made it look a lot better. The paint on fairings is very thin we have found round at the bike shop so don't rub it too hard if you try cutting it.

vauxhalls are known for their red paint fading a good bodyshop machine polish usually brings the paint back to life

all solid colors fade ,that's why all cars are done in base and clear .So they dont fade.as for your problem ,if you polish it ,it will fade again.

Vauxhall Flame Red, also known as candyfloss pink is well documented everywhere. It was going to get painted but it was sold instead. I showed the detailing world link is to a friend last year, he thought he kept his car clean till he saw that. There was one of a car bought from new which the owner spent a month cleaning before it was put on the road. Here's one of a Vauxhall to show the red problem.

They are done this way now because of paint and pollution regulations not longevity. How many cars of a certain age do you see with the lacquer peeling off? I've seen VW, Seat, Peugeot and others all with the same problem and that will not polish out it has to be sprayed costing a small fortune usually for someone who doesn't do their own repairs.

Depends on a number of things I think.
Is the red a painted finish or a red plastic?
If it is red plastic, then as Snooper says on black plastic the oxidisation can usually be burnt off with careful use of a hot air gun, which may work, but to be honest I have never tried this on anything other than black plastic. Would be interesting to see if it works with red.

If it is a paint finish then it may be possible to cut it back and re-polish. If it is a 2K (possible) or cellulose (unlikely) finish then cutting should be possible. If the finish is clear over base then re-painting is really the only option.

I will have to have a good look over them to see what I have and what to try. MAYBE, long shot here, Maybe there is a forum member local who is a dab hand in his shed that would like to show me how to paint

I painted a Thundercat front mudguard earlier this year, just gave it a coat of black shiny paint to sell it as the original was crazing. If the fairing is off it should be easy enough for you to get a decent finish. Do what my nephew did when his bike got tatty, just paint the lot matt black
