blacksmiths rivets?

looking to buy some 6mm rivets,the one's that blacksmiths use's some time a bit like what they use on ships. any idea what the proper name and where can I get them from.

F H brundles used to sell them, they can be got in copper or brass as well as mild steel

If you are talking about solid rivets they are called snap head, mushroom head ,countersink head or flat head snap head it is more than likely the one you are looking for is the snap head.

Yes, brundles still do them i beleive. I got some 10mm ones from there not that long ago.

They are still used a fair bit on agricultural equipment, to hold knives onto cutter bars, (combines etc). You could try an agricultural machinery place if there is one locally.

5/32" is that about 6mm its along time since I've worked with these no's.

5/32" is smaller than 6mm...its metric equivalent is 4mm, i expect they do them that small.

Hi any agriculture dealer will sell them as there are used to make combine knives

Don't know about steel rivets, but the ally ones we use come in many sizes. You have to be spot on with what you want as they do oversize rivets as well as standard sizes. The fit of the rivet in the hole before its formed is important.

on ebay at the mo ,he has 1/8th but to small ,
but if 5/32 is 4mm then I will have them.
oh and need to be steel as I'll be welding them(lugs for bike racks,bungy hooks)

They can be funny about supplying to non trade, especially for small orders.


Try Chronos, they do them now. And lots of other related stuff too look at while your there.
