Blackline and Roht inverter migs

I am looking for a gas mig welder for around £350

Been looking at the the blackline 200 and the Rohr 200mi. To me the look like exactly the same machine just with different casing? But ones £50 cheaper and from UK company.

I have the blackline and as a part time amateur works fine for me. The specs are slightly different, no tig facility on the blackline and looks to be an extra port on the front panel of the rohr. Good machines though and both have uk backup. Underneath they are generic Chinese boxes but probably better put together than some. The box will be badged by numerous traders including I believe snap on.
Didn't see rohr claims but blackline wont run at much heat off a 13a plug and include a 32a socket in the box.

Guy I know who has a fab shop uses a rhor as a small portable welder when he needs to go out and do small stuff. I’ve seen him repair cracks in Ali work boats with it.

I’m impressed. It’s somewhere on the list for the same reasons when funds allow.

Just noticed a wee fly lead with the rohr maybe thats what the extra ports for. The blackline claims no need to swap to +ve for flux core mig wire, never tried tho.

I have the Blackline too. For me as a hobbyist, it does everything I need. It has a stick function too. If using gasless then put the earth lead in the positive instead of negative and apparently it just works (using with gas so can't verify).

I have the Rohr 250. I chose it over the Blackline just because it had a regular 3-pin 13A plug. I’m very I experienced so can’t really give you any meaningful advice, but I really like it. Easy to set up, easy to use; very happy.

I don't think the rohr has a tig function. It's just gas or no gas mig and arc welding?

Hi, first post here, saw this thread and thought it worth mentioning that the blackline as stated above doesn't have a fly lead and that it has a solid bar inside connecting the euro torch socket to the "+ve" external terminal, so I'm not sure how it can reverse polarity when going gas less . Used mine only with gas, it seems to be fine though I'm only a beginner. Anyway, hope this is useful info.

Welcome aboard. I have not taken mine apart but will only be using it with gas and as you say it is perfectly capable of doing that

Thanks. I had mine apart a few times as it was initially leaking gas at the soleinoid value (not tightened correctly), and I added a basic air filter to the front of the machine to stop it pulling debris into the case.
But like yourself I only intended to use it with gas so the reverse polarity isn't an issue for me.

Think you may be correct and apologies if I misled anyone. I clicked on the Rohr link in the opening post. In the Box contents it lists a tig-armature and a Stick-armature but no word of mig-armature , this must be a misleading misprint on Rohr‘s Part.

i think one of the things you should be looking for is wich is more simple for repair. If you need to repair the machine you need to find the schematics of the machine or some repair man that has them or know knows how to repair them. As for the 250amps forget them on a single phase line. If you open the welder you should find a 180A/U or a 160A/u shunt on it so at best a 180 or 160 machine. by the way check this one https://weldes.co.uk/gb/migmag-welders/243-weldman-midi-mig-220-inverter-welder.html i think its the same machine, And i think that is best on warranty than the roht.

Spoke to blackline about both a 13a plug and running off a generator and both were a big nono.

Interesting have you maxed it out at 250a for a decent run on a 13a extension?

So its is recommended to go for one of these inverter migs rather then the sealey mightymigs or supermigs 180/190.

Going to be using it for working on track car. So from 1mm to 4mm steel mainly.

I've got a rohr mig 200 in the basket at the moment just want to make sure I'm making the right decision. Also can anyone point me in the right direction of what pipework and regulator I would need to connect to a 10L argon 5 bottle
