Black patina finish

Hi
I saw some cafe furniture the other day make from box section. It looked like raw steel with a black patina finish and possibly lacquered.
Any body point me in the right direction for finding more on this as I’d like to build and finish some items the same?

Just a good burnish with a twist knot brush probably, and then lacquer...

Had to look up Twisted knot brush. Seen them but never used them.

Black phosphate finish probably.

Just looked that up and don’t think it that. Black Phosphate looks too uniform a finish.
I’ll get a pic.
