I was quite taken aback at the local auction here last Wednesday, 32" colour telly sold as they usually do for £17. Old B + W telly (with failed test) sticker sold for £26. Who would want one of them now a days.
Ive got a really old one. New in the 80s I think. It works off mains and 12V so great for the caravan when no electric available (concerts mainly). Still works great, doesnt drain the battery too quickly and I can see the News and Sport.
Yeah lol, but it was knackered. Was a sterio one with a speaker on each side of the screen, must have been bought for a different project.
Funny thing was bidding started at £2, took a few bids to take it up to £26.
They are worth money as props for film making, cafes, shops, some people collect and restore them and some buy them to convert into a retro look aquarium.
Look how much the old Dansette record players fetch now with the revival of LP's, probably 20 times their original price.
Often it's buyers knowing the prices in the sticks can make a great profit with the trendy flat owners down south, old bread bins, vintage food mixers and the like all go on show in some £50k kitchen because it's artistic
Will be interesting to see how collectible the more modern CRT sets become in our lifetime. I think they will become rare quickly as they were relatively low cost compared to the valve based previous generation. What with smalller house people don’t have the room to save old TVs.
