bit windy today

with the wind going a bit crazy today i came back to my house and come across a builders rubble sack lying in the road just down from my drive.
so rather than drive over/around it i thought i would get out and move it, as soon as i open the door the wind snatched it and blew it wide open.
luckily it didn't fold it in half against the wing but it did bend both hinges and damage the check strap so now the door contacts the wing when opened

so most of the afternoon has been spent repairing something that never should have happened in the first place

rant over sorry everyone

in future you know just to drive round it and report it to local council, its less hassle

luckily it being an old vw its nut and bolted together which makes it a lot easier to take apart and beat back into shape.
i dread to think what damage it would have done to a newer car door as i would have thought they were heavier with all the extra gadgets and stuff.

when my sister worked at local shop the owner decided to buy himself a brand new 1600e cortina, driving down the road carboard box in front of him, straddled it, crunch/rip, came to a stop , box was full of scrap metal, he ripped exhaust of,pipes and cut rips into floor. had to have it recovered and some floor pan repairs...etc.

It was windy here yesterday and my wood carrier basket had blown out of the wood shed I put it back in and there's a bag of sticks in there so I thought I'd wedge it with them. Lifted the bag and almost had a seizure when a cat leapt out from behind it and shot off past me and down the garden

All repaired and working now.
Welded up the stops on the check strap so it wouldn't let the door travel so far and hit the wing.
To fix the hinges I jacked up the door which bent the hinges back, it's not perfect but much better than it was and can use it again.
