I have a BOC Migmaster Turbo 130 mig welder. I've just started practicing after a few years off, to restore my old Lancia. I had a go on some scrap metal, 0.9mm thick, lap joints. My welder has four power settings, 1, 2, Low and High. I started on 1 Low and the first pass went reasonably OK. On the second pass there was no power/spark at all. I checked the earth lead etc all seemed fine. I then tried setting the power on 2 Low. This worked but seemed a bit too much power. So the lowest seting, no power, the next one up, a bit too much. Any ideas please?

welcome to the forum ,,,, 0.9 on a Lancia ,,, that must be the chassis ,,, 0.7 be closer most of the time ,,,
dont aim for lap joints , aim for but joints , laps may trap water and become a rust line in the future ,,, I find it very tricky to work with a welder that has only 4 settings for the reason you state ... best of luck with the project ,,,, remember to enjoy the welding , dont beat yourself up at the start its just down to practice and patience .

Thank you. most of the work will involve butt joints. I started to practice with lap joints to make it a little easier, while I familiarize myself with the welder again. It's been a long time.
