Bit confused

Hi all,

I am new to mig welding and decided after watching lots of video's on youtube to buy a Sealey supermig 150

Problem i have is all the video's i watched, the welders had two knobs on the front and a reference table inside the side cover.

My welder has an on/off, a wire feed knob, and two switches. One is Hi/Low and the other 1 / 2. Giving 4 settings Low 1 and 2, and High 1 and 2.

There is no reference table on the inside of the machine, so i have no clue how to ballance the power to the wire feed.

I am using desposable co2 bottles and 0.6 wire. I plan welding approximately 2mm mild steel on my Bandit frame

Is there a formula i can follow or a guidence table i can downloaad from hear or a link to another site as the welder instructions give away nothing.

Go to HOME page and top left is the Mig Welding Tutorial page. Info you need should be there. Also Think you might need to up to 0.8mm wire not so much for the 2mm part but more the frame, to get the heat in.

with 0.6, start with 1&1 with wire speed knob around 9 o clock, if you get probs with wire feed,leave it at 9 à clock and go 1 & 2 and tweak wire speed-probably down towards 8o clock
Second go try 2 and 1 and 8 o clock.
0.8 wire probably better, hth, good luck.

Superb thanks gents. One other question.
All the video's I watched on YouTube show two knobs on the welder and a chart contained within .
It seems things have gone backwards and it is now more difficult to set up the welder than it was.

the ones with 2 knobs are either inverters with infinite adjustment, or are just a brand of machine that uses a voltage rotary switch instead of voltage rocker switches. the principle is still the same for each machine, just a slightly different way of adjusting them. the reference chart inside the cover is just a guide and a mere starting point, i found after a few days playing about you get to know what material needs what voltage and what wire feed etc, and the most important thing is that it sounds right, looks right, and if it is an important (structural) weld, do a few practice runs and try to break them/cut and etch them to see how strong they are etc

I did type all this out but thought it may confuse you a bit so found this video. If you can find the voltage ratings of the two rocker switches (4 settings) on the supermig website or anywhere else on the net then you could measure your wire speed then find a average settings chart on the internet. This will work out to what some welders come with on the panel.
