Bike rack suitable for a BMW coupe

Evening all,

Have booked a weekend away over the bank holiday and considered taking the bikes. I have an E92 3 series coupe which granted isnt the vehicle best suited to carrying bikes and the Mrs wont go in the van!

Does anyone have any experience with racks suitable for a coupe? Only needs to carry 2 bikes.

Have you got a tow bar? If so have a look at the Twinny, Dutch made drops on the tow ball. We use one on the campervan, had it 20 years & must have covered 50,000 miles with it no problem. Thule also do a similar one, posher & a posher price as well.

I havent. I was looking at the tow bar mounted ones as they looked a bit more stable that some of the ones i had seen mounted to the boot

I use a tow bar mounted halfords one, 4 bikes.

Thule was double the price and a nicer mounting system but double the price so I cope with the halfords system. They do a 2 and 3 bike version

We used Thule Proride bike racks on the wife’s E82, 1 series coupe, without any problem. Use the same racks on different roof bars on the current F30. Roof mounted you get wind whistle but the bikes are secure well north of the speed limit.

Towbar bike racks are better but a pan to store and if you need to remove when parked you’ll need fold down seats
